Rob Auton - Comedian
Biography
Rob has been playing us since the club began, regaling us with his poetry and unique comic vision.
I used to love seeking his shows out in Edinburgh each year, always in the same tiny room deep within the bowels of the earth, that seemed to require a different route each time. Every show was like an hour long hug, with gentle, beautiful jokes and some real barnstormers.
Then one year I went to find his show and it was in a much (much!) bigger room, and I queued to squeeze my way into the sold out show. I’ve since seen him opening at the South Bank centre for Tim Key. The word is out – no-one else is doing quite what Rob does. I love taking a walk in Rob’s world. It’s a better world than ours, and it seems like a lot of people feel the same!
Of course, some of that came from him winning Dave’s Joke of the Fringe back in 2013, which he talks about there with his typical bemusement. The bigger profile also got him some reviews from Daniel Kitson, Scroobius Pip, Paddy Considine & Vanessa Feltz – life goals achieved!
